Bowls Brings Tourism Boost to Hopton

Posted on 12 February 2013 by Hopton Tourist Information

As the dust settles after this year’s bumper bowls championship, Hopton’s tourist industry is in better shape than ever. With Potters becoming the bowls world’s equivalent of snooker’s Crucible, and more visitors than ever, it’s clear that Hopton’s future is bright.

In a recent interview with the Eastern Daily Press, Potters head honcho Brian Potter revealed just how hard the road to success was. He said: “My first contact with the World Bowls Tour was unsuccessful when they told me they were happy with Preston and that Hopton was hardly the epicentre of the country.”

Mr Potter’s gamble paid off: “The World Indoor Bowls Championships have generated £100m in turnover over 15 years and the weeks of the event have added up to 1.2 million bed nights.”

This influx of new visitors has given Hopton a new lease of life, and hopes are high that this summer season will be the biggest ever.

World Indoor Bowls 2013 Returns to Potters

Posted on 16 January 2013 by Mark

The world of Indoor Bowls will return to Potters Leisure Resort this month, with the planets best players coming together in a bid to become world champion.

This years tournament will mark the 15th anniversary at Potters, which since hosting the event has become the place for indoor bowls.

Scotland’s Paul Foster returns this year in an attempt to regain his title, after last years shock exit to Welsh teenager Ross Owen.

England’s reigning champion Andy Thompson will be looking to continue his winning ways and potentially climb higher in the world rankings. After last years impressive victory at Potters in Hopton, the England Captain shot from 10th to 5th in the WBT ranking list.

Thompson will start his campaign off with a match against Australia’s Phil Bennett on January 21st.

“Potters have truly become the home of bowls,” said World Bowls Tour Chief Executive Richard Maddison. “The World Indoor Championships have gone from strength to strength since we first came to Norfolk in 1999. The facilities here are superb – unprecedented around the world – and the support we get is excellent.” To date Potters have invested more than £3,000,000 in supporting the sport of bowls.

Brian Potter, Chairman of Potters Leisure Ltd, adds: “Bringing the televised World Championships to Norfolk fourteen years ago and putting bowls on the East Anglia map has been enormously satisfying. Hosting these championships has attracted hundreds of thousands of bowls enthusiasts to Potters – not just to watch the world’s best players during the championships, but also to play on our rinks throughout the year.

Keep up to date with all the action at World Bowls Tour, and visit Potters Leisure Park for more info and tickets to this years event.

Could Hopton-on-Sea be Good for Your Health?

Posted on 15 November 2012 by Hopton Tourist Information

We’ve all heard the old stories about the curative properties of sea air, which go back to the Victorian era, when sickly family members would be packed off on a steam train to the seaside, and be prescribed long walks, bathing and a diet of fish and chips.

If that sounds like fun to you, you may want to write a thank you note to the European Centre of Environment & Human Health at the University of Exeter, who have discovered that this old wives tale may actually hold water. Researchers discovered that the closer a person lives to the sea, the better their overall health and the lower the chance of contracting several common illnesses.

With this in mind, health-conscious home-hunters will be heading to the Norfolk Riviera, where they can enjoy the health benefits of coastal living plus the unique charms that make Suffolk such a wonderful place to live. Local estate and letting agents are facing increased demand, which has led to increased competition.

If you want to secure your place by the sea, make sure you use an agent who really knows their stuff, and can respond to your needs. Many agents now use sophisticated letting agents software to help you find your own slice of Norfolk paradise!.

So if you want to enjoy a long, healthy life in one of the most beautiful seaside towns in the country, get in touch with a CFP enabled agent today, and we’ll see you on the beach!
